The Book of Matthew presents Jesus Christ as the Messiah, the King of the Jews. He comes from the line of Abraham, the father of the Jews. From the line of Abraham comes King David, who produced the kings of Judah, the kings of the Southern Kingdom. Jesus comes from this line of kings, and is traced from David's ninth child, King Solomon. The line continues through Jesus' earthly father, Joseph. As the Scriptures proclaim, Jesus' actual Father was the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God, and is in fact, Almighty God.
The Book of Luke, chapter 3, presents Jesus Christ in His humanity. It traces His lineage backward from the father of Mary, whose name was Joseph, to Adam, the first human being. You might note that in this line, Jesus still comes from the line of King David, but not through Solomon. This line comes through King David's tenth son, Nathan, not the prophet Nathan.
Jesus' credentials are firmly established, with both mother and father coming from the line of King David. Hence, Jesus is fully God and fully man.
Do not shy away from names; slow down and read them. They are given to us for good reason. God has given us a record of names which tells us that He is keeping track of everyone. He knows your name and ancestry and has always loved you, even before you were born.
