ok - i think i get it. (I am trying to get the connections in these readings.) God accepted Abraham not because he led this perfect life (he goofed going to Hagar - it was acceptable to "man" but not God's way to sleep with the servant)but God accepted/chose him because Abraham listened to God's directions. Thus God was looking for obedience and faith, not moral perfection. Conection: God is looking for faith, not the outward show of it, but the inward faith in one's heart...not hypocrisy because God is not fooled by appearances.whether it be going to church or doing charitible works. Am I with y'all? Or am I probing and examining too much??
Very excellent comment. You are absolute correct. God accepted Abraham, not because he was perfect, but because he believe in God. The imperfection of Abraham was not that he desired to do evil per se, but that he was trying to do things his own way, which was not God's way.
Also, Abraham went down to Egypt and lied about his wife. This was done out of fear. He said, he was afraid there was no fear of God in the land. So he called her his sister rather than his wife. I believe she was his half-sister.
Our faith is very much the same as Abraham's. We love God and want to honor Him in all we do. Yet how often do we act in fear and without faith? We do this out of weakness and God knows our weaknesses. What we can count on is this: His lovingkindness never ceases.
