Wisdom is represented as "female." God is represented as "male." The Scriptures say that "by wisdom God created the universe." We see the perfect balance of male and female in creation; both working together in the plan of God.

Phew - Jacob was certainly left mostly out of this war between two sisters (their struggle for dominance borders on the amusing)! Poor guy - Leah even slapped him down by telling him she paid for his services.
So what is God telling us here?
Rebecca, in the meantime, who had initiated the plan for Jacob to inherit it all from his father, was punished by never seeing Jacob again. (very tough on a mother) So we know she hadn't done the right thing...duhhhh...but on the other hand, Jacob was the great (however many times) grandfather of Jesus, wasn't he? Isn't Mary related to him? And isn't relationship critical in the Bible?
bottom line? This is very confusing, I think. I can't seem to figure out just how wrong is wrong and how right is right?
It's rough to be married to four women at the same time, but someone had to do it! Just kidding. Sounds like a nightmare to me.
About relationship: One of Jacob's sons, Judah, gave rise to the line that led to King David; and from David's line came both Mary and Joseph, the parents of Jesus.
Relationship is more important in the spiritual sense than the physical. All followers of Christ become spiritual children of Abraham. Abraham was the father of faith.
Just because someone was or is on a particular line does not make him holy or good. As we go through the Scriptures you will see that most of the heros of the Bible were weak and pitiful at times; some on the line to Jesus were just plain evil. It's a good thing our weaknesses do not keep God from loving us. Take a look at Romans 5:8.
You have a good sense of right and wrong. Don't be afraid to look at the characters in the Bible and see them as they are. Most of what is done by man is immoral and does not bring glory to God. Man is sinful, even the heros of the Bible.
In Genesis 2:24, it says that "a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." It doesn't say "wives," but wife. How do you be one flesh with four women? King Solomon was one flesh with 1,000 women and it severely injured Israel as we will see later.
Good questions and conclusions.
LOL - wasn't it Soloman who said something like split the baby in half because he wanted to determine the real mother? Well, if we split Jacob into four pieces.....need I say more? He was forced to marry Leah, but his true love was Rebecca - the other two servants were not wives, they were just side affairs, right? So the big question... is his true love his true wife? Or is his father-in-law's choice(Leah) his first wife, his true wife???
Me? I'm sticking to one husband, and so far nobody I have met since I met him 38 years ago can compare, so he's also my true love. I think that's enough for me :)
True love is hard to find, and love and marriage have many meanings. I'm glad you are set with your husband. I am set with my wife.
However, my true love is Christ, and second to Christ is Candy.
