The Jews were offended with Jesus because He claimed to be God, and because He showed that He cared for Gentiles. But in this case, they were offended at Him because He lived in their city and was one of their brothers. This is basic jealousy. They were saying, "He is one of us, why should we think highly of Him?" And, "How could one of our brothers be God?" Isaiah 53, however, says One would come and die for the sins of His people. This was written 700 years before Christ was born.
