Dear nate, I was going to sask about the bronze serpent on a pole as be an idol, they answered that question in the commentary. Were all the people that Moses destroyed evil? It seems so barbaric to slaughter all of those peoples? Debbie Best
This is a hard one for me to answer. How could everyone that Moses was supposed to slaughter be evil? You might also ask, was everyone who died in the flood evil? Some think there were as many people inhabiting the earth then as there are now: 6 billion!
Sometimes we just have to back off and say "Father knows best." I mean the real Father of all of us. He knows what He is doing and is not waiting for our approval; only our trust and obedience.
It is hard to trust the God who would have the Israelites wipe out every man, woman, and child in Canaan, but that is what He asked them to do. Part of the problem they are having today is that they did not do what He said. Instead they intermarried and became idolaters, which lead to their losing the Promised Land.
It's confusing to me. However, I do trust God in everything He says. I just don't understand everything. See Isaiah 55:8-9.
We are in the same boat about all this. But if God said wipe them out, you can bet that they deserved it. Another question is, What do we deserve in America for our sexual immorality and lawlessness? Do we deserve to be attacked by a foreign nation? Have you noticed that this is exactly what is happening? And when any Christian even dares to suggest such that we might deserve it, he is looked at as a fanatic. But what do we deserve for the 1.2 million abortions/year for 25 years that has been occurring in the US?
