Nimrod had a consort named Asherah who claimed she became pregnant by a sunbeam and gave birth to a son named Baal. You will read of Asherah and Baal worship throughout the Scriptures. They are the idols of the pagans, and sometimes Israelites; men who turned away from the true God. You might notice that from the line of Shem came Eber, which is where the word Hebrew came from. Eber had a son named Peleg, Genesis 10:25, which means "the earth is divided." I believe the birth of Peleg corresponded to the period of time when God confused the languages of men in the days of Nimrod.
Asherah was a fertility goddess and was worshipped with drunkenness, sexual immorality, homosexuality, orgies and shrine prostitution. They worshipped in ecstatic utterances (babel) while working themselves into frenzy with drunken orgies. In other languages Asherah was known as Venus and Ishtar, and Baal was known as Cupid and Isis. Asherah and Baal were the gods of the mystery religions and were worshipped with child sacrifice. Many cults and customs in our society today come from the mystery religions of Babylon!
